Be careful with those 'personalized' family gift exchanges

My aunt gave me a monogrammed blanket last week with the wrong initials - she used my ex-boyfriend's initials instead of mine, and we broke up 3 years ago. When I opened it at dinner, my cousin laughed and said 'the tag says return to sender' and everyone stared at me. Has anyone else had a gift come with a weird reminder of something you wish you'd forgotten?

and honestly i'm not surprised cause family gift exchanges are like emotional landmines every single time. my mom once gave me a photo album filled with pictures of me and my college roommate who i had a falling out with, and she even wrote 'best friends forever' on the front cover. like thanks mom, really needed to stare at that while eating ham in front of everyone. what is it about wrapping paper that makes people forget you're not the same person you were five years ago? i've started keeping a running list in my phone of things i don't want to be reminded of, but nobody ever checks it cause they think they know you better than you know yourself. your cousin's comment was brutal though, that's the kind of thing that makes you want to crawl under the table and disappear for a while.

Did I accidentally ask Santa for a highlight reel of my worst life choices this year?
