My water filter froze on day 3 of a Smoky Mountains loop, took 4 hours to fix

I was on the Salt Creek Loop last October and hit a cold snap overnight. My Sawyer filter was solid as a rock by morning and I didn't realize until I went to fill up at a creek. I spent the whole morning trying to thaw it in my jacket, then finally got it going by holding it against my stove pot for 20 minutes. That taught me to keep filters in my sleeping bag every night below 40 degrees. Has anyone else dealt with a frozen filter mid-trip, and what was your quick fix?

Learned that exact lesson the hard way myself. Spent a freezing morning in the Shenandoahs trying to thaw my filter by stuffing it in my armpit while doing jumping jacks, which just made me look like a weirdo and did nothing. Finally realized I could tuck it between my water bottle and the pot lid for ten minutes of simmering, barely got it working before the next refill point. Now my filter sleeps with me every night too, it's basically my stuffed animal at this point.
