My brother told me to skip the switchbacks on the Timberline Trail...
He said the straight-up climb near Ramona Falls would save an hour. I tried it last fall and my legs were jelly for two days... the extra time on the real trail is worth it for the views and to save your knees. Has anyone else had a 'shortcut' tip backfire on them out there?
