Found a shortcut through the Smokies that shaved 6 miles off the AT

Been taking the standard route for years until a guy in Gatlinburg showed me a side trail near Newfound Gap that cuts straight to Icewater Spring Shelter, does anyone know if that path holds up after heavy rain?

Oh man, it's funny how finding one better way makes you wonder what other shortcuts you've been missing in life. Does the trail drain pretty good after storms, or does it turn into a mud pit?

The whole "finding one better way" thing really got me thinking @jennyp19. It's wild how once you start looking for little time savers, you see them everywhere. Like how we all do dumb stuff out of habit just because that's how we were taught, not because it's actually smart. For the trail question, it drains decent after a good rain, but the lower spots near the creek can get soupy for a day or two. I think the bigger takeaway is that most things in life have a hidden shortcut, you just gotta be willing to try something different.
