Had a full blown debate about cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving last year

My aunt brought homemade cranberry sauce with chunks of orange peel in it and my uncle pulled a can of the jellied stuff out of the pantry and set it next to hers like a challenge. They argued for ten minutes about which one was real cranberry sauce while the turkey got cold. Has anyone else had a family member show up with a competing version of the same dish on purpose?

Gotta disagree with the whole "competing dishes" thing honestly... I've seen relatives do that and it always feels more fun than a fight to me. My mom makes a chunky cranberry relish with walnuts and my dad's sister brings the canned jelly ring every single year. They set them side by side and people get to pick what they want. It's not about proving which one is real, it's about having options at the table. The argument part sounds like your aunt and uncle just enjoy winding each other up more than they care about the turkey getting cold. Maybe they're both right in their own way and that's okay.

My mom and aunt do the exact same thing every year with their different stuffing recipes, its hilarious.
