Dropped $340 on a used harness tester that was dead on arrival, check the firmware before you buy
Bought a used harness tester off a guy in Wichita last month for $340 because my shop's unit kept throwing phantom opens on a King Air. Got it home, powered it up, and the screen just flashed a firmware error and froze. Turns out the seller never updated it past v2.1 and the newer test cables won't even talk to it. I called the manufacturer and they said the update requires a proprietary cable that costs $195 and takes 6 weeks to ship. So now I'm $340 in on a brick that's sitting on my bench collecting dust. Has anyone found a workaround for older testers, or should I just eat the loss and save for a new one?
