Spent $400 on a paint mixing system that gave me wrong colors for 2 months

Bought a budget digital paint scale from eBay thinking it would save time matching metallics, but every mix came out a shade off and I ended up redoing three bumpers. Lost about $400 total including the wasted paint and extra clear coat. Anyone else get burned by cheap paint equipment or am I just unlucky?

Man, that stinks but here's the thing nobody talks about - those cheap scales don't account for temperature swings in your paint booth. I had the same issue for weeks until a old timer told me to let the paint cans sit at room temp for 24 hours before mixing, and suddenly my colors matched way better. The cheap electronics just don't compensate for that like the expensive units do.

That temperature issue is something most people overlook until they've wasted a batch of paint. I started keeping a dedicated thermometer in my mixing area and checking the actual temp of the cans, not just the room, before I even open them. It makes a world of difference when you're trying to get consistent results batch after batch.
