Had a paint job go south on me back in 2017

I was laying down clear coat on a Mustang in my old shop near Atlanta when a bug landed right in the middle of the hood. I tried to pluck it out with tweezers but ended up making a bigger mess, had to wet sand and redo the whole panel. Anyone else ever have a tiny thing ruin a whole afternoon?

Had that exact thing happen with a blue Ford Focus back in 2018. I get why people say start over but @the_max I actually disagree on this one. Sometimes you can save it if you act quick enough. I let the bug sit for about 10 minutes until the clear got a little tacky, then used a razor blade to carefully scrape it off and hit it with a light dusting of clear over the spot. Wet sanded just that area with 1500 grit and polished it out. Couldnt even tell it was there after. Starting from scratch on a whole panel sets you back hours and wastes product. Only time I fully redo is if the bug sinks in while the base is still wet or the clear is too fresh. Otherwise its fixable with patience.

My buddy Dave had a similar thing happen with a metallic blue Charger. A gnat got stuck right in the second coat of base and when he tried to blow it off it just smeared into a big greasy streak. He spent the next four hours sanding it all back down and starting fresh while the customers dog kept barking at him through the shop window.

Gotta disagree with you there @felix824... starting over was the right call with bugs in the paint.
