My worst networking week ever happened back in March
I went to four events in five days across Phoenix and Scottsdale. Every single one was just people handing out business cards and running off before you could ask a real question. One guy from a marketing firm shook my hand, said "follow up with my assistant," and walked away mid-sentence. By Friday I had 37 new contacts and zero actual conversations that mattered. Has anyone else noticed the events here turning into speed dating for sales?

The whole thing is just a symptom of how shallow everything's gotten, you know? People treat networking like they're checking a box instead of actually trying to connect with another human. It's the same thing you see at the grocery store now where nobody makes eye contact or at a party where everyone's phone is out. Everyone's terrified of wasting time so they speed through everything and end up wasting all their time anyway. Real connections take patience and a little awkward silence here and there, not a stack of business cards. That guy who walked off mid-sentence probably thought he was being efficient but he just came off as a jerk.
