Met a guy at a Scottsdale coffee shop who changed how I pitch clients

I was at Lola Coffee in Scottsdale last Tuesday waiting for a meeting, and this older guy at the next table overheard me on the phone. He walked over and said I was leading with features instead of problems, and that I should ask one question before I ever mention my service. Has anyone else had a random stranger drop a truth bomb like that and actually follow their advice?

So the secret to closing a deal is just talking like a tortoise with laryngitis.

Last year at a co-working space in Austin, a woman told me I talked too fast in my intro. I slowed down my next three calls and booked two of them. Sometimes you just need an outside voice to point out the obvious thing you're missing.

Slowing down your speech is a game changer for sales calls. People need time to process what you're saying, especially at the start. I record my own calls and listen back, it's painful but shows your real pace. You can even practice with a timer, aiming for a clear sentence per breath. That outside feedback is gold because we get used to our own bad habits.
