Hit 50 new local connections from a single event at the Phoenix Convention Center
I went to the Southwest Tech Mixer last week expecting maybe 15 good contacts, but my phone says I added 50 people from the Phoenix area. It was wild because I just focused on asking folks about their biggest challenge right now, not just swapping cards. Has anyone else seen a jump like that from changing up their approach at a local event?

Surface level chats" is the key, yeah. I learned the hard way that 50 contacts means nothing if you didn't get their specific pain point written down somewhere. Next time try keeping a quick note on your phone right after each convo, even just a few keywords. That way when you follow up you can actually reference what they said, not just "hey we met at that thing.

Honestly, that number sounds like a red flag to me. Fifty connections from one mixer? I've been to those Phoenix events and half the people are just collecting contacts to hit their own quota. You get a bunch of LinkedIn adds from folks you'll never actually talk to again (it happened to me last month). Asking about challenges is nice, but that's a lot of surface-level chats, not real relationships. I'd rather leave with five solid leads I actually remember.

My last networking attempt was so bad I think three people blocked me. Fifty is a whole different planet.
