Was dead against using climbing spikes on removals... now I see the point

For the first 12 years of my climbing career I REFUSED to use spikes on anything that wasn't a full takedown. Thought it was hack work. Then in 2019 I took on a massive dead ash near Oak Park that had to come down in pieces over a house. My ground guy talked me into trying spikes just for the spar work after the limbs were off. Cut my climb time by almost 40 minutes on that one job. Now I still won't touch a living tree with them, but for deadwood and removals I'm a believer. Anybody else come around on something they used to hate on?

Man, my buddy had the exact same attitude for years. He finally caved on a sketchy silk oak removal and wouldn't shut up about how much easier his life got.

That "won't shut up about how much easier his life got" part hits close to home. My neighbor was the same way after he finally hired someone to take down a dying cottonwood, now he acts like he invented tree work.
