My favorite climbing saw snapped clean in half on a job in Riverside yesterday
I was about halfway through trimming a big old eucalyptus for a client and my Silky saw just gave up. The blade snapped right at the handle joint while I was making a cut on a branch maybe 6 inches thick. I almost fell backwards off my spike when it went. Had to finish the job using my hand pruner like a caveman. Anyone else have a trusted tool just fail on them out of nowhere?

Oh, that's a rough one. Was it a newer saw or one you'd used for years? I had a pair of loppers I'd had since the early 2000s just lock up on me mid-cut last spring. The hinge pin sheared right off and the whole thing jammed shut. I was so mad I almost threw them at the tree. It's unsettling when a trusted tool betrays you like that, especially when you're up on spikes and relying on it. I hope you didn't get hurt and that your client was understanding about the delay. Sometimes you just have to laugh and finish the job with whatever you have left in your belt.
