ISA certification stats blew my mind, only 1 in 4 tree workers in the US holds one
I pulled the numbers off the ISA's own member report after a client asked why my quote was higher than the other guy's, and it turns out less than 25% of people doing this work in the US are actually certified, which explains a lot about the hacks I keep getting called out to clean up after.
Wait, hold on. That 1 in 4 number doesn't mean 25% of tree workers are certified, it means 25% of ISA members are certified. The ISA is the certifying body, so their member report only counts people who already joined the group. The real share of certified workers out of everyone swinging a saw is way lower than that. Most guys doing tree work never join ISA at all, so they'd never show up in those stats either way. I get why the client thing bugged you, but the report you're citing doesn't actually say what you think it says. The hacks problem is real, the math just isn't on that particular stat.
