That old Hotpoint dryer in the apartment building on 3rd Ave taught me a lesson about lint traps

I went out to fix a no-heat call last month at a 6-unit building downtown. The lady said her dryer had been running cold for about a week. I pulled the thing out and the entire back panel was caked in lint, the exhaust hose was completely crushed behind the unit. It took me 45 minutes just to clear everything out and get it running again. Made me wonder how often you guys actually check the full vent path on service calls, not just the trap?

Funny you mention that, my own dryer at home taught me that lesson last winter when I spent an hour cleaning out the vent and found a small family of birds had moved in. Guess I should practice what I preach.

Did you check the outside vent cover after that? I started putting a wire mesh screen over mine after pulling out a nest of leaves and debris, it stopped anything from getting in and let air flow through fine.
