That condo job in Austin made me question whether we even need OEM parts

Pulled a fridge compressor on a 3-year-old unit and the $210 OEM part failed after 4 days, while a $60 generic from the local supply house has been running fine for 2 months now. I know warranty rules say stick with factory, but has anyone else seen aftermarket hold up better than the real thing, or did I just get lucky?
