Went to an anime convention panel and nobody talked about the actual show

Sat through a 45 minute panel on some popular battle shonen. Guy just talked about his merch collection the whole time. Didn't mention a single plot point or character arc. Felt like a shopping haul video. Is this normal now? Anyone else sit through a panel that was completely off topic?

ngl i kinda get the guy tho. like the merch IS the anime now for a lot of people, the show itself is just an ad for the figures and shirts. 45 mins is a lot but if you're a big collector i get why he wanted to flex that instead of just recapping plot points everyone already knows.

the show itself is just an ad for the figures and shirts" - that's a pretty dark take lol. but seriously, was the panel description misleading or did it just say "collector panel" and nobody checked? cuz i feel like theres a big difference between a guy accidentally rambling about his toys vs someone who actively chose to make it a merch flex instead of engaging with the actual source material.

Just kept it short and focused on what I actually liked about the show...
