Used to think dub was always inferior until I watched Cowboy Bebop dubbed

I spent years avoiding dubbed anime because I thought the voice acting was always flat and emotionless. Then my buddy made me watch Cowboy Bebop in English and I had to admit the dub cast nailed every single character. The way Steve Blum voiced Spike with that lazy confidence just fit the show way better than the Japanese version for me. Has anyone else had a specific show flip their opinion on dubs vs subs?

Honestly saw a random YouTube video breaking down the Cowboy Bebop dub and how the director actually let the actors improvise some lines. That really changed my mind because it meant the English cast had more freedom to make the characters feel natural. Ngl that show is basically the gold standard for proving dubs can be just as good as subs.

Steel ball run is another one. The voice direction there was so specific and deliberate it changed my whole view on dubs.

Question whether a single dub's quality is supposed to flip your whole view on the medium, isn't that a little dramatic. Some great dubs have been around for decades, like Ghost Stories or FLCL, so this isn't exactly new territory. Feels like people just rediscover old things and act like they invented fire.
