Ran into an old installer from ADT at a supply house in Denver yesterday

Bill was just grabbing wire and we got to talking about the new wireless panels. He said he switched from running hardwire everywhere to mostly wireless about 2 years back and cuts his install time by almost 40 percent on residential jobs. Made me rethink my stubborn "hardwire only" rule, especially with how reliable those Qolsys panels have gotten. Anyone else made the switch and regretted it or been happy with it?

Well now that's an interesting point about still running wire to certain spots like motion detectors. You said you still wire the main panel though, is that more for power or are you running data lines to keep the backbone hardwired for reliability? I've been on the fence about wireless panels because battery life and signal interference still nag at me.

Oh man, I switched about three years ago and never looked back. I was a hardwire diehard for fifteen years and honestly felt like wireless was a cop out. But when I finally gave Qolsys a real shot on a few jobs, I saw the time savings was just too good to ignore. I still run wire for the main panel and certain key spots like motion detectors, but everything else gets the wireless treatment now. The reliability has been rock solid on the stuff I've installed, and my customers appreciate not having holes punched everywhere. Zero regrets on my end.
