Appreciation post: the week my car died, my paycheck bounced, and my kid got the flu all at once
Two weeks ago I had maybe the worst 5 day stretch of my adult life. My Honda threw a rod on Tuesday, my direct deposit bounced Friday because payroll messed up, and my 7 year old came home with a 102 fever that same night. I sat in my driveway in Kansas City doing the math on a $3,200 repair while the bank said my account was negative $14. My neighbor Darnell saw me crying and just handed me his spare car keys for the week, no questions asked. That one small thing saved me from losing my job on top of everything. What do you all do when three bad things hit in the same week?
Isn't it kind of telling that the thing that saved you was a neighbor who just helped, not a plan or a rainy day fund? Everyone always says save three months of bills, but when payroll bounces and your kid is sick, no savings account is gonna watch your kid while you get to work. Maybe the real answer is having people around you, not just money in the bank.
