TIL my new 'drip' irrigation system for my backyard in the North Valley flooded my neighbor's yard because I didn't install a pressure regulator.

Yeah, that pressure regulator thing is key, a cheap inline one from the hardware store fixed it for me.

Hard disagree honestly, those inline regulators are pretty hit or miss and sometimes they just create new pressure problems elsewhere in the system. Had a buddy try that fix and he ended up with water hammer so bad it shook his pipes loose from the wall mounts. Plus the hardware store ones usually can't handle real temp fluctuations so they fail right when you need them most.
