My swamp cooler died on the hottest day in Albuquerque and I paid $310 to learn a lesson
Woke up last Saturday to the house already at 84 degrees by 9am, and the cooler was blowing nothing but warm air. I climbed up on the roof and found the pump had burned out, water was bone dry in the pan, and the pads were crusted solid with that hard water scale we get here. Called a guy who wanted $310 just for the pump swap, so I ran to the hardware store on Juan Tabo and did it myself for $62 plus a new set of pads. Now I check the water level every Sunday morning, but I'm wondering if I should just swap the whole unit before July hits. Anyone here had luck with a specific pump that survives our water?
