Figuring out my swamp cooler was a summer-long headache.

Regular pad changes make all the difference in this heat.

Nah, swamp coolers are low key easy if you get the hang of it. Regular pad changes matter, but skipping a few won't break it right away. @davidcraig mentioned angry noises, but that's just character, like an old car rumbling. My unit grumbles all season too, but it still blows cold air fine. Learning basic upkeep cuts down on most problems fast. The whole summer headache talk seems overblown once you know what you're doing.

Ugh, glad you figured yours out. Mine just sounds angry all summer no matter what I do.

Wait, are you telling me your thing actually sounds pissed off for months on end? That's crazy, @the_wren. I mean, what does an angry noise even sound like? Is it like a harsh screech every morning or a low grumble all day? My neighbor's old AC unit used to make this awful rattling sound that felt like it was yelling at the sun. I can't imagine dealing with that all summer without losing it.
