Decided to go with foam insulation instead of fiberglass for my crawl space
I spent three weekends last month trying to decide between foam board and fiberglass batts for under my house in the North Valley. The foam cost me around $600 more, but I figured it would seal better against the dust and moisture we get here. Installation was a pain since I had to cut every piece to fit around the pipes and vents. A month later, my floors are noticeably warmer, and I haven't seen any condensation issues. Has anyone else tried spray foam down there, or did I overspend for no reason?

Man, foam insulation is a whole different animal. I helped a buddy do his attic last summer and we used the spray foam. That stuff expands like crazy, you gotta be real careful not to overdo it or it'll push your whole ceiling up. He used the closed cell stuff and now his AC barely runs compared to before. It works but man is it messy to clean up if you mess up a spot.

Man, I know exactly what you mean. A buddy of mine tried DIY spray foam in his garage and it went sideways fast. He sprayed a spot near the ceiling and that stuff expanded so much it pushed the drywall off the track. Took him a whole weekend to scrape it all off and redo the drywall. He said next time he's just paying a pro to handle it.
