Am I the only one who thought my swamp cooler was broken but it was just one $6 part?
Last week was brutal, 98 degrees in Albuquerque and my swamp cooler was blowing straight hot air, so I figured the motor was done and started pricing new units around $800. Called a guy out to look at it and he pulled the pump, showed me the impeller was caked solid with caliche grit from our hard water, and swapped in a new pump for $6 at the hardware store on Central. He said most folks out here replace the whole cooler when the pads and pump are the real problem, and honestly I was about to be one of them. How often are you all flushing your pads and checking that little pump before the season starts?
