Vent: I tripped a silent alarm in the old Northgate Mall in Columbus and had 4 minutes to decide
So last Saturday I was poking around the food court of the old Northgate Mall in Columbus, the one that closed in 2005, and I ducked behind the counter at what used to be a Sbarro. Bad call. My foot hit a floor mat and a little red light started blinking on a panel near the register, and I swear I heard a faint beep from somewhere in the ceiling. Now here's the debate I keep having with myself: do you bail out the nearest exit right away, or do you freeze and wait to see if it's actually a real alarm? I bolted for the service hallway, but my buddy just stood there filming on his phone like an idiot, which almost got us both pinched by a rent-a-cop who rolled up in a golf cart about 4 minutes later. I yanked him into a linen closet and we crouched there for 11 minutes while the guy walked past twice. So what's the move, do you always scope the alarm panels before going behind any counter, or do you just accept the risk and move fast? Real answers only, I'm trying to settle this with my buddy.
