My brother told me to bring a headlamp to the old Sunrise Mall in Corpus Christi

I thought my phone light would be enough, but he was totally right. We went in through a broken service door and the main hall was pitch black. The headlamp let me see all the old store signs and a huge fountain that was still full of gross water. Has anyone else found a simple piece of gear that made a huge difference on an explore?

Yeah, phoenix_perez97 is spot on about the phone light only making a tiny spot. I was the same way, always saying my phone was fine. Then I tried using a proper flashlight on a dark basement explore and it was a total game changer. You don't realize how much you miss until you can actually see the whole room. Now I feel silly for ever arguing about it.

Actually, a phone light is pretty weak for that kind of thing. It only lights up a tiny spot right in front of you. A real headlamp throws light way farther and leaves your hands free. I learned that the hard way trying to hold my phone and climb over something at the same time. Almost dropped it into a puddle of who knows what. Good call listening to your brother on that one.

But sometimes you just need a quick light and your phone is already in your hand.
