Had to choose between a working escalator and a dark stairwell at the old Tri-County Mall near Cincinnati

I picked the stairwell last Saturday because the escalator hum sounded like it could drop at any second, and I ended up finding a forgotten Radio Shack store with all the display phones still bolted to the counters, so has anyone else ever skipped the obvious route and stumbled onto something better?
